One word that comes up instantly, and perfectly sums up O Teri is atrocious! Inspired by the 1983 cult movie Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, this is nothing short of a movie-goer’s worst nightmare come true. Shoddy dialogues, bad acting and songs that test your patience, this one has all the elements to top the worst movie of the year award claims.
Two nincompoop journalists bungle their way through this movie. By the end of it, they leave you so fagged out that while exiting the theater you will pledge not to go watch another movie that has anything to do with Indian politics, corruption et al. Supposed to be a satire on these topics, O Teri only manages to touch new lows in movie-making.
The story revolves around two investigative journalists (Pulkit Samrat and Bilal Amrohi), who are desperate to uncover a scam and make it big. However, they are so incompetent that even when the dead body of a top cop falls literally into their laps, they cannot make the most of it. They fail to decipher the nexus between politics and sports thriving around them.
Every time the viewer thinks that it cannot get any worse than this, a song pops up and defies it. Even the likes of Anupam Kher and Vijay Raaz cannot salvage this movie from ending up as one of the shoddiest pieces of cinema to hit Indian screens in recent memory.
If there is any solace for the viewer, it is the runtime that is under two hours. Having said that, O Teri is so slow-paced, especially in the first half, the viewer can conveniently doze off and yet not miss anything at all. One cannot be overly critical of this movie as there are so many flaws in it that one can carry on endlessly criticizing it.
Clearly, the makers of this movie didn’t want to engage the viewers, rather they just wanted to fiddle around with an all-time classic. It is this absence of due respect for a venerated movie that leaves you disgusted, even if you were to exonerate them for putting you through a torturous time. If you haven’t paid heed to the many strongly worded criticisms of O Teri, and headed out to watch it, maybe it is time you started taking movie reviews more seriously.
