Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Ram (Ranveer Singh) and Leela (Deepika Padukone) belong to two families who are sworn enemies. However, they fall for each other. Predictably, no sooner both the families learn about their closeness, they vehemently oppose it. Guns rule the roost and a lot of bloodshed ensues.
The first half of the movie builds up a nice tempo that holds the second half from falling apart. There are stunning visuals in the movie that will leave the viewer mesmerized. The music and lyrics are melodious and will have you tapping your feet, although one feels there should have been fewer songs.
The performances by all the actors is top notch. However, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone steal the show with their exemplary acting. The dialogue delivery of both these actors is superb. In the emotional scenes, the viewer will empathize with them. Both Ranveer and Deepika bring the right amount of seriousness to their roles. The viewer will not for once feel that the emotional scenes are overdone. Deepika portrays the role of a girl who is madly in love and there are some bold scenes involving Ranveer and herself. Ranveer plays a romantic and brash young man who does not believe in violence.
Viewers will surely appreciate the rustic setting of Gujarat that is portrayed in the movie. Fans of Ranveer and Deepika are going to be very pleased with the performance of their favorite stars. A word of appreciation for the supporting cast; without their adept performance the movie would not have made a strong impact on the viewer. Hence, to a great extent it is a team effort that finally pays off. After all the controversy surrounding the title of the movie, it is now finally out in the theatres. The movie will do good business at the box office as it has star power and a very talented director.
