John Krasinski and Emily Blunt excel with their immaculate acting in A Quiet Place. We look at why A Quiet Place keeps the viewers engaged despite a less than convincing story in A Quiet Place film review.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world where aliens are rampant, a family tries to survive adhering to the only requisite that keeps them from being found by the aliens: complete silence. Even a shred of sound is enough to trigger the aliens into tracking their prey and brutally attacking it.
The film sets up quite well in the first ten minutes, and that establishes the tone for what is to follow later. John Krasinski maneuvers through the rest of the script with relative ease. The sound or the lack of it, make the scares even more powerful.
You have to be always on your toes keeping yourself invested in the story to reap maximum reward. John Krasinski doesn’t want you to sit back like you are watching a dumb horror flick.
There are many times, particularly in the last half hour, where you need to follow what is happening in the house that is at the center of the story. I wouldn’t like to give away more, but A Quiet Place will only partially satiate you if you don’t catch up with everything that is going on.
There are a lot of things in the movie that seem to be there merely to take the story forward and don’t necessarily make sense. Although there is a disregard for logic at times, the movie manages to scare you enough to make it a compelling watch. There isn’t anything more irksome than when a horror film doesn’t land enough punches that shake up the audience.
A Quiet Place doesn’t hold back when it comes to unsettling the viewers, and for that alone it will appeal to those looking for an impactful horror film. Add to that, the well-etched out characters that are admirably enacted by the entire cast, and all of whom are significant to the story, strike a chord with the viewers.
For a movie with silence as its main card, A Quiet Place gets most things right. It never strays away from the central premise, and this serves it well. Filmgoers will take pleasure in the fact that A Quiet Place refrains from cheap jump scares. With some nifty editing, it manages to hit the high notes often and more importantly at the critical moments.
The camerawork in A Quiet Place is absorbing and helps keep the audience focused on the story during its hour and a half runtime. A Quiet Place gets nearly everything right, and though not without its loopholes, the film stands tall as a worthwhile watch for the horror/thriller fans.
A Quiet Place film review rates A Quiet Place (4 / 5)
