Oculus Review – Scares Galore

Oculus Review

Ten years ago, Tim was convicted for the murder of his parents. Now, he is released from protective custody. His sister Kaylie, believes that her brother is innocent, and that a supernatural force emanating from the Lasser Glass, an antique mirror, was responsible for the death of their parents. Having traced and got the mirror in her possession, she now, with the help of her brother, wants to prove his innocence. She learns that the same mirror has been the cause of deaths of many people over the past century.

Kaylie installs the mirror in the same place where it was during their childhood days. She has set up all the latest equipment to record and finish this evil force. However, things start to go horribly wrong for them. Can they manage to get rid of this supernatural force? Well, Oculus certainly makes for interesting viewing.

There are plenty of scary scenes in Oculus. The story builds up nicely to an effective finale. The background sound is also quite impressive as it helps in building up the scary scenes to a point where the audience will really spook out.

The acting of all the actors in creditable, notably, Karen Gillan who plays Kaylie and Brenton Thwaites who plays Tim. Obviously, the film being a horror film is not meant for those who do not like the horror genre. It is also not for the faint-hearted, as there are some pretty good scares. At some points, the film appears to drag a little, but by and large it is quite evenly paced.

What is going to be the fate of Tim and Kaylie? Are they going to get the better of this supernatural force? These are the questions the answers to which lie in the finale of the film. If it is a horror film that one wants to see, then there can be no better choice this weekend than going in for Oculus. It has all the elements of a good horror film, and manages effectively to scare the viewer. The second half gets really spooky, and the audience will love this even if the first half is not as scary.
