Shuddh Desi Romance is a mixture of comedy, romance and drama. Raghu (Sushant Singh) flees on the day of his marriage not sure whether he should get married. Partly this confusion is caused because on the eve of his marriage with Tara (Vaani Kapoor) he meets Gayatri (Parineeti Chopra) and falls in love with her.
Later Gayatri and Raghu share a live-in relationship. On the day of their marriage Gayatri runs away. Afterwards Tara meets Raghu again. What is the purpose of this meeting? Is there another twist in the plot?
Sushant Singh as Raghu is funny and confused. Parineeti Chopra is bold in her role as Gayatri. Considering this is Vaani Kapoor’s debut movie, she shows fine poise.
The music and lyrics are both engaging. Not once does the movie tend to lag. It constantly is throwing up some surprise for the viewer to indulge in.
The movie talks about love and marriage. Is marriage necessary to live together? The movie asks this question and also gives us an answer in the finale. As the movie questions the institution of marriage, the mature viewers may not like the whole concept very much. However, one must not forget that this is a youthful movie targeting primarily the youth.
The director has taken certain liberties with the movie. It is unbelievable at times and one may think the movie transgresses the realm of factuality. But this is Bollywood and fantasies are not rare. If there is any drawback, this is it. Probably, if it had been made more believable, the viewers might have appreciated it more.
There are a lot of kisses flying all around in the movie. The youthful crowd will definitely giggle at the funny scenes and comedic one-liners. And they are strewn all across the movie. Rishi Kapoor runs a marriage catering business and is constantly around the movie as an old timer giving credibility and support to the acting of these younger generation actors.
If you have an evening to spare and are looking to spend some time, then walk into the nearest theatre to check out this movie.
