Motichoor Chaknachoor is a cheeky comedy about a 36-year-old man looking for a wife and a girl staying next door to him who wants to marry so that she can go abroad. In the end, do they manage to find what they are looking for? We analyze the movie in the Motichoor Chaknachoor film review.
Starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Athiya Shetty in lead roles, Motichoor Chaknachoor is set in Bhopal in Central India. When Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s character Pushpinder Tyagi returns from Dubai, his mother tells him to get betrothed. Not only is age catching up with him, but also he is desperate to get hooked at the earliest to any girl. When coincidentally, Annie, who stays in the adjacent house, is looking to get hitched only so that she may move out of India, things seem to conspire toward Puspinder and Annie getting together. Soon enough, both tie the knot in spite of the glaring differences in their personalities.
As always, Nawazuddin Siddiqui delivers a strong performance as Puspinder Tyagi, a naive guy who is not aware of what he might be getting into by marrying his neighbor. For a relatively inexperienced actress, Athiya Shetty confidently strides through her part that of Annie, an impetuous girl. The supporting cast that includes Karuna Pandey, Vibha Chibber, and others all chip in as well.
The story is straightforward, and a tad too stretched at two and a quarter hours. Also, there are one too many background songs that contribute to some of the dull moments in the film. While before the intermission, the story is rather hilarious, there are a few emotional scenes in the latter half, which for some viewers might take away the fun to be had from the movie.
Motichoor Chaknachoor does have a message between all the chaos, but I am not sure if it will be appreciated in the manner the filmmakers intended it. As the film does not come across as a message-driven one with its heart firmly set on entertaining the audience rather than conveying a message, the latter can be seen as merely a conduit to bring the story to its conclusion.
Upon exit from the cinema halls, it is unlikely that most viewers would recollect much of the film. It is slight in that sense, and the message it conveys might have been appropriate in another circumstance but fails to leaves much of a mark here.
Motichoor Chaknachoor will undoubtedly satiate Nawazuddin Siddiqui fans, who will enjoy the range of expressions that the actor uses to good effect in this film. Moviegoers looking for some fluff might also find something here to keep them engaged.
