Jhootha Kahin Ka Film Review: Confusion Galore

Jhootha Kahin Ka is a madcap comedy that has a few good laughs, especially in the second half. The film has a powerful supporting cast that includes Rishi Kapoor, Rajesh Sharma, Manoj Joshi, and Jimmy Shergill. Even though the movie is hilarious post-intermission, it does not engage the audience enough due to a shaky script and weak lead actors. Further, inconsistent pacing mars Jhootha Kahin Ka. Although the second half is livelier, it does not quite make up for the film’s shortcomings as we see in the Jhootha Kahin Ka film review.

Watching this movie reminds you of better films like the Housefull franchise. Akin to the latter, the plot involves confusion and the ensuing hilarious moments. At the center of Jhootha Kahin Ka are two friends. One of them, played by Omkar Kapoor, falls for a girl (Nimisha Mehta) who does not want to marry someone with a family. While the other friend, played by Sunny Singh, intends to wed a girl (Pujita Ponnada) from a not so well-to-do household. The duo hatches a plan to prevent their love lives from derailing.

The production value of this movie leaves much to be desired, lending it a made-for-television vibe. The songs in Jhootha Kahin Ka do not add to the story in any way and merely extend its running time. The first half suffers due to poor editing that leads to a sluggish start for the film. A good fifteen minutes could have been removed from the first hour.

Manoj Joshi and Lillete Dubey as Nimisha Mehta’s parents will crack you up. Also, both Rishi Kapoor, as the father of Omkar Kapoor, and Rajesh Sharma as his uncle are excellent. The pick of the actors is Jimmy Shergill, who is brilliant in his brief role as Sunny Singh’s rogue brother. Omkar Kapoor and Sunny Singh are both under par throughout the movie in the leading roles. One misses the excellent comic timing of a Riteish Deshmukh or an Akshay Kumar over here. Actors like them may have done wonders for the movie.

Unlike the Housefull franchise, Jhootha Kahin Ka has weak acting from the leads, inconsistent pacing, and many of the one-liners don’t land either. In spite of the film picking up the pace later on, it still falls short of an entertaining comedy. Jhootha Kahin Ka is mediocre at best, and that too mainly due to a lively second half.

Fans of eccentric comedies might want to give Jhootha Kahin Ka a shot. Those interested in a more mature comedy will want to stay away from this one. Overall, Jhootha Kahin Ka is run-of-the-mill that is not consistently engaging.
