If there is one movie you want to catch as you settle into another new year, this has to be the one. With its quartet of talented actors, there is a lot to look forward to here. While not everyone is inclined to watch slapstick comedies, Good Newwz will satiate those looking for content-driven laughs as we see in the Good Newwz film review.
After failing to bear a baby via the conventional route, two couples decide to try in vitro fertilization (IVF). When the sperms of the men are accidentally swapped, chaos ensues. What follows is an explosion of emotions by the concerned parties. There is melodrama to be had here in the best possible way. The pick of the actors, Kareena and Akshay, portray a chic urban couple with uncanny authenticity. And even though the uncouth and loudmouthed pair played by Diljit and Kiara are for the most part content to be in the supporting role, they do have their share of glorious moments between the title credits and the finale.
The screenplay is tight and keeps you largely invested. Most of the laughs to be had are in the first half. Post intermission, the melodramatic oeuvre catches up only to once again give way to some madness at the end.
If I had to nitpick, I would say that the songs could have been much better. The ones that are there aren’t catchy enough to stand out. It is beyond me as to why they could not have had some memorable numbers to make the shenanigans of the actors even more interesting.
While this one will be mostly remembered as another sweet and charming Akshay comedy, there is a lot more here. Kareena once again shows us that she is not past her prime and the relative newcomers in Diljit and Kiara do not let us down either. It would not be wrong to say that this is an actor-driven film. Even though there are some good writing and direction, it wouldn’t have been half as good were it not executed on the screen to a tee by the leading actors.
If you don’t go looking for too much, there is a minuscule chance that you will be unsatisfied by what is on display. And if you are one who relishes the prospect of watching a wholesome comedy, this one is definitely for you. After watching the Good Newwz trailer, if you were enthused to watch the film, then by the time the end credits roll, your expectations from it will be largely met.
And yes, if you are looking for a poignant message from the film, there might be a thought or two about childbearing in there as well. If it is a hard-hitting movie that you are looking for, this one is not that, as it gets you in a feel-good mood by the end.
