Rush Review – An Adrenaline Pumper

Rating:

Rivalry in any sport is a spectacle. It always makes each team or individual compete harder against its rival. What would sports be without fierce competition? It is fascinating to follow the tussle between opponents right to the finish. Rush is based on one such rivalry in the sport of Formula One. It is between a British driver James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) and Austrian Niki Lauda (Daniel Brühl).

It all begins in 1970 at a Formula 3 race. One comes to know that James Hunt is bold and brash while Niki Lauda is calculative and serious. Thus their nature is opposite to each other. James wins that race. After six years, in 1976, the two drivers are competing for Formula One World Championship.

The defending champion Lauda is hell-bent on keeping his title intact, while Hunt has a point to prove by becoming the World Champion. The movie also takes a look at their personal lives. It shows how celebrities do not have a personal life as such. The paparazzi is always intruding in their private lives. Rush looks at how Lauda and Hunt help each other in competing harder against each other. Their rivalry is what is so riveting to watch. When Lauda is out of competition for some time because of a crash on the racetrack, Hunt gives his best to close the gap between them. On the other hand, Lauda is itching to get back on the racetrack and seeing Hunt win the races in his absence only goes to strengthen his resolve to make a speedy recovery.

The screenplay by Peter Morgan is brilliant. Ron Howard has come up with a gem of a movie, while the two main actors Chris Hemsworth as Hunt and Daniel Brühl as Lauda have given stunning performances. The music by Hans Zimmer is fantabulous.

Whether one follows Formula One or not, this movie is a must watch. The twists and turns in the plot are thoroughly gripping. Being a biographical gives the movie even more credibility. If one wants to really watch an outstanding movie, then Rush is one that is not to be missed.
